Three hours of snow play on Lake Mountain
Visit the cross-country mountain resort 120 kilometers northeast of Melbourne -- the Lake Mountain Alpine Resort. Play in the snow in Australia's most popular ski resort equipped with modern facilities.
Named after George Lake who was the area's surveyor-general, Lake Mountain has the highest altitude of 1,480 meters with a based altitude of 1,340 meters above sea level. The snow resort sits in the middle of Lake Mountain and Echo Flat which is part of the Yarra Ranges National Park. It has a total skiable area of 2,400 hectares, 37 kilometers of ski trails, and 3 toboggan slopes.
It is the only ski resort closest to Melbourne, so take your time to enjoy the quaint, picture-perfect chalets overlooking the mountains surrounded by miles of cross country ski tracks and toboggan fields. The resort is equipped with modern facilities: a bistro and day shelter, a cafe, ski equipment, retail shop, snow sports center, ski school, and some more.
Skiing in the Lake Mountain area stretches back to the early part of the 20th century in the 1920s and 30s. Today Lake Mountain is Australia's favorite ski resort receiving over 100,000 visitors a year.
Make your own snowman, try tobogganing, and take a cross country ski lesson. Or better yet if you're not confident to try the excitement of speed when skiing, then just throw some snow balls. We'll drive you right up to the snow so you don't have to lift your ski or transfer buses.
Experience the fun and the amazing scenery of this mystic mountain. Join our toboggan race or snowman selfie competition for a chance to win a prize! Or take a walk to the mountain summit for spectacular views. Plenty of time included to visit the bar and bistro for a meal or coffee and warm up.
A visit to waterfalls and nature walks
We’ll spend the afternoon for a 700-meter walk to the spectacular and awe-inspiring Steavenson Falls, one of the highest waterfalls in Victoria.
Named after John Steavenson who was Assistant Commissioner of Roads and Bridges who visited Marysville in 1862, the falls plummets 84 meters into the Steavenson River Valley. Today the falls is the heart of the 190-hectare Steavenson Falls Scenic Reserve.
The falls has become a favorite tourist destination in Marysville since the 1860s because of its distinct allure and amazing natural beauty. With 5 cascades and a total of 122 meters of descent, you will stand in awe of this natural wonder.
Dropping by the Yarra Valley's sweet delight
On our way back to Melbourne we’ll drive through the Yarra Valley and visit one of the most exciting destinations in the valley -- the Yarra Valley Chocolaterie and Ice-creamery.
Indulge your sweet tooth in their free samples of handcrafted chocolate products and sweet treats. Shop and bring home some goodies and specialties.
Explore their lawns surrounded by the picturesque Yarra Valley vistas of vineyards, hills, and mountain ranges. Feast on the sweetness and beauty of Australia's wine-producing valley.
Our One Day Melbourne Snow Tour package includes all entry fees, chocolate tastings, and a friendly and informative tour guide. We'll also pick you up from your hotel in the inner city and drop you off at the same hotel upon our return.
Bring your sense of awe and wonder at the natural sceneries as you adventure with us to the Lake Mountain, Steavenson Falls, and a drive through the Yarra Valley. Wear your waterproof jacket, pants, and shoes. Also, wear your gloves and beanie.
Don’t forget your camera to record the fun at the ski resort, take some photos at the amazing views of Steavenson Falls, and snap some sweet memories of the Yarra Valley.

This is approx a 10 hour day trip and well worth it. We were collected from and dropped back to our hotel. The tour guide Dan was very informative and knowledgable. He even gave pointers to assist those on a budget for the day. The scenery on the coach trip was lovely going through the valley and passed Marysville. Not a huge amount of snow at Lake Mountain but enough to tubbogan with and make a small snow man. Steavenson falls did not dissapoint. When back in Melbourne would book another tour with this company. As a family we had an awesome day out and was the highlight of my trip to melbourne.
We had a wonderful day out with a fantastic and enthusiastic guide. 3 hours of snow play on Lake Mountain (perfect amount of time) followed by a trip to the biggest waterfall in Victoria and topped off with a quick visit to a chocolate factory. It was a perfect day out and I cannot find anything that would need improvement or complaint.
