Full Itinerary

Explore Australia’s third-biggest island through an adventure journey departing from Adelaide. Known widely as “nature’s playground,” Kangaroo Island is celebrated for its abundant wildlife originating from the land, the sea, and the air, along with its wild terrains, pristine sandy shores, and welcoming residents. Stimulate your senses as you live through unforgettable natural encounters. Explore renowned landmarks, including Flinders Chase National Park and Seal Bay. Enliven your palate with honey and wine-tasting sessions, and engage in significant conservation efforts. Set off on enchanting walks, dive into the clear blue waters, and slumber beneath the countless stars of the southern heavens.

Start early to catch your 6.45 am SeaLink bus transfer from Adelaide CBD to Cape Jervis. Take a 45-minute ferry cruise to Penneshaw on Kangaroo Island. Meet your Untamed Escapes Guide and hear about the upcoming adventure. Board a bus and drive along the scenic coast to Pennington Bay. This beach is known for its surf breaks. Climb 500 steps to reach the top of Prospect Hill, the highest point on the island. Enjoy the rewarding views. Kangaroo Island is the world’s oldest bee sanctuary. Visit Clifford’s Honey to learn about bees and taste their honey. Visit Dudley Wines for beautiful ocean views and relaxation. In the late afternoon, arrive at the eco-campsite named “Happiness”. Access the stunning beach of Anetchamber Bay. Spend the next two nights here. Take some free time to relax or walk on the beach. Sleep under the stars of the Milky Way.

Start your day with a volunteer conservation effort at the Hanson Bay Wildlife Sanctuary. This sanctuary is home to native wildlife like koalas, kangaroos, possums, and more. It was affected by the 2020 bushfires but has since recovered. The work may involve seed collecting, tree planting, or wildlife counting. After that, visit the Flinders Chase National Park. It is known for its rock formations, beautiful beaches, and abundant wildlife. At Admirals Arch, you can see New Zealand fur seals. The Remarkable Rocks, shaped over millions of years, are also worth marvelling. Take a bush walk at Weirs Cove and have a picnic lunch. In the afternoon, visit Seal Bay, where around 800 Australian sea lions can be found. Take a guided tour to learn about these endangered species and conservation efforts. Walk down the beach and see sea lions resting. After a full day, head back to camp for dinner and stargazing.

Camping: Camping in a private area. Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner. Distance by car: 340 km.

Start the final day of your tour with a morning hike. Take some free time in Kingscote for a coffee. Explore the island’s stunning north coast for the rest of the day. Navigate through caves and reach Stokes Bay, voted the best beach in Australia in 2023. Have a picnic lunch and, if the weather permits, enjoy snorkelling or admire the landscape. Contribute as a citizen scientist and support conservation efforts on the island with a Passport for Recovery. Return in the afternoon and freshen up before packing. Head back by ferry from Penneshaw at 7.30 pm. Enjoy one last dinner (at your own expense) before saying goodbye. Arrive in Cape Jervis and return on the SeaLink bus connection, arriving in Adelaide at 11 pm.

Where to meet

Our central meeting point is Adelaide Central Bus Station, 85 Franklin Street, Adelaide @ 6:15 am.

The Sealink Coach Connection departs from Adelaide Central Bus Station, 85 Franklin St, Adelaide, at 6:45 am. Please be there at least 15 minutes early to check in.

Exclusions

  • Sleeping bags can be purchased from us onboard for AUD 50; this includes cleaning costs. You are more than welcome to bring your own. Payment is made directly to the tour operator.
  • Any meals not indicated within the itinerary. For those with special dietaries, we recommend you bring snacks as options are limited in the outback.
  • Hotel transfers pre/post tour itinerary to a nominated pickup point.
  • Personal travel insurance is highly recommended
