The estate is on 10 acres with views across the valley from Daniel’s Hill to the vineyards. This site contributes to the complexity of their wines, which are full-flavoured and balanced. History of Sutherland Estate

Founded by Angus Ridley and Cathy Phelan, Sutherland Estate has a history that reflects their passion for wine. Angus and Cathy, along with Ron Phelan, wanted a family-owned boutique winery that produced cool climate wines. They have achieved that and more with a 5-star rating and a 5-star rating from wine companions. Over the years, the estate has grown in reputation and is now known for its beautiful cellar door, which is light and airy with cathedral ceilings, the northernmost cellar door in the region.

Wine Tasting

Wine tasting at Sutherland Estate is a must-do when visiting the Yarra Valley. Guests can taste a selection of wines in the beautiful cellar door which has stunning views of the vineyards and mountains. The cellar door is open from 10 am to 5 pm, so plenty of time to taste a range of wines. The staff, including winemaker Cathy Phelan, will guide you through each tasting, explaining the wine science behind each wine, from barrel fermentation to the art of barrel stirring.

Sutherland Estate is renowned for producing top quality cool climate wines. From crisp whites like Riesling and Chardonnay to bold drys like Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon. We also produce a beautiful sparkling wine for special occasions or a lazy afternoon on the deck. The palate is medium-bodied with a clean finish that showcases the Yarra Valley.
