Wine and food matching teasers

Wine and food matching teasers

As you plan your visit to the Hunter Valley, here are some teasers on how to match your food with the region’s excellent wines. Match that Cabernet Sauvignon or Tempranillo with Cheddar cheese. A glass of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, or Rose would be great if you chose a white mould cheese. You can pair that dark chocolate with a Grenache, Merlot, Malbec, Shiraz, Tawny Port, or a Zinfandel for chocolates. For white chocolates, Gewurztraminer, Moscato, or Riesling will do. Beef or kangaroo burgundy pie paired with Pinot Noir or Tempranillo would be best. You may also try to pair smoked salmon soufflés with a glass of Semillon. A warm duck breast and cauliflower salad with a savory Grenache, Pinot Noir, Sangiovese, or Tempranillo. A Sauvignon Blanc, Vermentino, Semillon, or Riesling for your summer salad, seafood-based, or vegetable salads. For richer and creamy salads, a full-bodied white wine like Verdelho, Chardonnay, Roussanne, or Viognier.
