History

Founded in 1983 by Marc and Eva Besen, TarraWarra Estate is a Yarra Valley icon. The Besens wanted a place where great wines, art and nature could coexist, and today, the property is that. The creation of the TarraWarra Museum of Art in 2003 solidified the estate’s cultural credentials, and the focus on single-block varietals and exploring each vineyard site shows a deep respect for the land. Over time, TarraWarra Estate has become one of the best wineries in the country, a true whole of experience that celebrates tradition and innovation.

The Wines: Terroir

TarraWarra Estate’s wines are a celebration of the Yarra Valley’s terroir, each wine showcasing the unique characteristics of the region’s many microclimates and soil types. We do minimal intervention in the winemaking process so the individuality of each block can shine through. From juicy reds to crisp whites, TarraWarra’s wines are made with precision and love. Pinot Noir

Pinot Noir is the heart of TarraWarra Estate’s wines. The TarraWarra Estate Pinot Noir and TarraWarra Estate Reserve show the full range of this variety. Planted in some of the best sites on the property, including the TarraWarra Estate J Block, these vines get the cool climate and well-drained soils of the Rhone Valley. The wines are elegant and complex, with layers of cherry, raspberry and subtle earthy notes. Each bottle is a reflection of the care given to these vines, and the wines are balanced and deep; they’re a benchmark in the Yarra Valley.

Chardonnay

TarraWarra Estate Chardonnay is also very good, and the TarraWarra Estate Reserve Chardonnay showcases the acidity and minerality of the Yarra Valley. Our Chardonnay approach is to select specific fruit parcels from individual blocks to get a subtle expression of this classic variety. Citrus, stone fruit, toasty oak, and vanilla, the Chardonnays from TarraWarra are structured and elegant and a great food match for many dishes.

Other Varietals

Apart from Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, TarraWarra Estate also produces other varietals, including the TarraWarra Estate Roussanne Marsanne Viognier, a blend that pays homage to the white varieties of the Rhone Valley. This wine has a different flavour profile with honeysuckle, citrus and stone fruit aromas and shows the Yarra Valley. Quality is applied to all varietals, each one is treated with the same level of care so every wine in the range is the best of its kind.
