Full Itinerary

Kick off your relaxed journey from Darwin, cruising the 300 kms to the UNESCO World Heritage Listed Kakadu National Park. Given our summer’s lush, tropical vibe, we’ll make a few pit stops to soak up the stunning landscapes, including a visit to Fogg Dam Conservation Reserve, where you can spot a vast array of birdlife and wildlife native to Australia’s Top End. As we meander through the Wetlands Region, we’ll grab a snapshot at the iconic Kakadu National Park welcome sign—a must-do for the memory books.

The rest of the morning will find us exploring the northern reaches of Kakadu, popping into the town of Jabiru. Here, settle down for a picnic lunch and check out the local art and top-notch coffee at the Marruwuddi Gallery. Later, we’ll head south to Cooinda, where you’ll check into your accommodation and take some time to unwind.

This evening promises a spectacular sunset aboard Kakadu’s renowned 2-hour Yellow Water Cruise. A highlight of the region, the summer rains expand the billabong far beyond its winter reach, setting the scene for wildlife sightings and a breathtaking sunset. Finish your day with a delightful 3-course meal curated by Cooinda’s chef, showcasing the finest flavours of the Territory.

Meals: Lunch. Dinner.  Accom: Cooinda Outback Retreat Glamping (shared bathroom) or Lodge Room (private ensuite). Driving Distance: 315 km. Hike Distance and Grading: 1km loop Grade 1, flat pathways and/or boardwalks

You possess the potential to arise and illuminate early on day two and navigate your way to witness the spell of sunrise at Burrungkuy’s Nawurlandja lookout. After basking in the continually shifting colours of this majestic locale at this hour of the day, we will partake in breakfast nearby and then proceed into Burrungkuy’s primary rock art viewing galleries to relish some of the most outstanding and renowned rock art in Australia. Around mid-morning, we will revert to check out from our lodging in Cooinda and delight in a cultural art experience on the premises of Warradjan Cultural Centre, which emphasises the central and southern sections of the park. Local community figures, including traditional owners, will present this tactile art experience. Avail the opportunity to explore the cultural centre, which also displays a substantial gallery and gift shop, and satiate your taste buds as we indulge in a picnic lunch amidst tropical environments. After lunch, it’s now the occasion to initiate the voyage back to Darwin. Meandering our way back through approximately 300 km of the luxuriant Australian bush, permit Kakadu to bid you goodbye as we traverse through its astonishing biodiverse environment, a noteworthy reason that this magnificent region is UNESCO World Heritage Listed for both natural and cultural attributes. Arriving back in Darwin by 6 p.m., savour the rest of your evening, reflecting on the duration you’ve spent exploring and the new companions you’ve acquired. If trekking, waterfalls, and immaculate rock pools are forthcoming on your list, we eagerly await welcoming you back next time during the region’s dry season for more exploration!
